I-PLAY cover: open online platform

The I-PLAY platform is online and open to all: a Training Centre, a games Library and 12 traditional game sheets from Spain, Poland and Türkiye, completed in English.

The I-PLAY platform is now online and open to everyone. The 12 game sheets covering traditional games from Spain, Poland and Türkiye have been completed in English, and the website's Library is where they will be published. No fees, no waiting list and no small print. All you need to do is visit i-play.abarka.org.

What you will find there today

When you open the platform, you will see three sections. The first is the Training Centre, where we host materials for educators, youth leaders, teachers and anyone else who works with young people.

The second is the Library, our games database. This is where the 12 game sheets we have documented with our partners in Poland and Türkiye will go: four games per country. The third is Activities and News, where we publish updates, press releases and event reports.

An I-PLAY game sheet is not just a set of rules in a stray PDF. Each one includes:

  • the cultural and historical background of the game, so you know where it comes from

  • step-by-step instructions, written for someone leading it for the first time

  • inclusive rules, adapted for women, migrants and people with disabilities

  • safety notes

  • learning outcomes, if you are using it in a classroom or a youth programme

On the website you will also see the European Union co-funding logo and its disclaimer: they are already in place. They are there for a simple reason: this work is paid for with European public money and is given back to citizens through open access.

Designed so that no one is left out

Accessibility is not something you bolt on at the end. At the project's kick-off meeting, held in San Sebastián on 12 and 13 March 2026, the consortium confirmed the style of platform (along the lines of Moodle or Tutor LMS) and the features it will have.

These are the decisions already agreed, which are being implemented as we upload the content:

  • multilingual support in Spanish, Polish and Turkish, as well as English

  • subtitles on videos, so they can be followed without sound or by people with hearing difficulties

  • documents in accessible reading formats, not scanned images that a screen reader cannot read

  • a mobile-first interface: if your phone is your only screen, it works just as well

  • an accessibility widget to adjust contrast, font size and other reading preferences

Let us be transparent about one point. The content is created first in English, the common language of our consortium. Spanish is already available, and the Turkish and Polish versions will be completed over the coming months.

Getting started in 3 steps

You do not need to be a heritage expert or own expensive equipment.

  1. Go to https://i-play.abarka.org and explore the Training Centre and the Library.

  2. Think about your group: their age, the space available to you and the time you have.

  3. Come back when we publish the game sheets. Download them, read the safety notes, look at the adaptations and off you go.

A playground, a park, a municipal sports centre or the corridor of a youth centre will all do. Most of the games we have documented need little more than space, a few people and some enthusiasm.

What is coming next

What you see now is the foundation, not the finished product. The following features and content are planned but not yet available:

  • publication on the website of the 12 game sheets and the training materials

  • gamified self-study modules, so you can progress at your own pace

  • badges and certification on completing the training pathways

  • a community forum, for sharing experiences across the three countries

  • full versions of the content in Spanish, Polish and Turkish

The calendar is already moving. From 7 to 11 September 2026, trainers from Spain, Poland and Türkiye will meet in Biga (Çanakkale) for the training of trainers. What comes out of those days will return to the platform in the form of videos and materials.

Take a look and tell us what you would improve

A game that nobody documents is lost. A game that is documented, translated and published openly is not.

We aim to reach more than 5,000 users and to train more than 100 educators. Neither of those figures can be achieved with a platform that nobody opens.

That is why we are asking you for two very specific things. First, go to https://i-play.abarka.org and see how it is shaping up. Second, tell us what was missing, what you could not find and what you would change.

Your reply will not land in an empty inbox: the platform's testing phase will be shaped by feedback from the people who actually use it, and what you tell us now is what we will fix before the final version. Get in touch via Instagram (@abarkaongd), Facebook (abarka.ong) or www.abarka.org.
